TUCSON, Birthday and MTBING

The last time I posted an update we were conquering the wall of pain. Now I am 1 year older and I can feel the wisdom pumping through my body. Each day, each moment and each situation it seems that I learn something new about myself, and the people around me. I turned 22 on March 13th and the day was action packed. We decided to move to Tucson for the weekend to get in some mountain biking and see the other Canadian friends. We all went out for Mexican food in down town Tucson. I had the Grande Burrito… it was grandee delicious. Thanks for a wonderful birthday Fudge, Derek, Mark, Adam, Emily and Charlotte! After enjoying 8 dollar pitchers of beer we all headed pack to the “land yacht” for coconut chocolate cake!!! YUM YUM.

The next 2 days Derek, Fudge and I would take on the challenge of conquering the local mountain bike trails. The riding we did was the most technical trails I have ever been on. Derek and I constantly challenged each other to try new lines down rock-polluted trails. I was super proud of Fudge. She really pushed her skill level; she was riding things that made me look away! We all left with some cactus marks and bumps and bruises but it was well worth it. The second day Derek and I did an EPIC ride… 7hr, 125km mountain bike ride!!!  EPIC, ENDURING and certainly without doubt EVENTFUL… pretty much wraps up the ride in three words!

Well we are all safe and sound back in Yuma. I missed the warm blue sky’s, so nice to be back!

Cheers

Gone with the Wind

If Yuma was a place of water then today would have been a sailors delight, but it is a desert. When you add 60km/h winds and sand you get an enormous mess. Derek and I both decided not jump on the bikes because of the sand blasting conditions, so instead we climbed a mountain. The other day we found a trail while mountain biking that looked like it would reach the summit of one of the surrounding mountains. Cory, Derek and Myself laced up the hikers, packed our daypack and set forth. The beginning of the trail was easy breezy. A nice 6% grade would lead us on for half the climb. After a quick stop at a lookout we pushed on. It seemed with every step the grade got steeper and the trail got thinner. Unfortunately we didn’t make it to the top, the goat path disappeared and the remaining push to the top looked like it required climbing gear, which we did not have. We made our way back down the mountain and headed home. Derek and I jogged home, while Cory got picked up by his Dad (Ken). Total time for adventure #7 was 3hrs 7mins, we covered 12.5km.

Cheers

Into The Wild

Yesterday Derek and I ventured out into the wild. We did a 3 hr mountain bike ride in the desert. The night before a friend of Ken’s (the owner/ friend of the family that’s house we are staying at) was telling us how he hasn’t seen a snake in 6-7years and not to worry. Well about 1hr 45mins in to out ride Derek looks at me and says, “snake.” I said, “really?” “Do you want to go back?” Derek said, “kind of.” So we turned around and went back to check it out. Lucky for us it wasn’t poisonous. The ride was a lot of fun. We either went up or down and every trail was polluted with rocks…. Derek described it at as sketchyyyyyy!!!

Today is a rest day so we are going to ride in to town and check out the bike shops!

Cheers for now
